Procedure I Use
Safely lift the Boxster and place it on the proper stands of your choosing or use an auto lift to raise the car. Here's one method of jacking up the Boxster. Never work under the car when it's on a jack. If possible, lift the Boxster so it is level when sitting on stands so you can check the oil level and look for leaks before lowering it when you finish.
Place the catch pan under the oil pan drain plug. If the catch pan has a breather plug on it, make sure you open it to allow the oil to enter the pan instead of flowing all over the floor.
Remove the oil drain
plug and allow the oil to drain completely. You should get about 7 1/2-8
quarts from the oil pan. Once
it is completely drained,
replace the oil drain plug along with a new aluminum crush ring and
torque it to 50 Nm or 37 Ft
Lbs.
If you want
to drain the oil cooler, move
the oil catch pan under the oil cooler drain plug. Remove the oil
cooler drain plug and allow the oil to
drain completely. You should get about 1-1 1/2 quarts from the oil
cooler. Once it is completely drained, replace the oil cooler drain plug
and torque
it to 50 Nm
or 37 Ft
Lbs.

Using the oil filter socket, remove the oil filter casing. Be careful as
the filament will remain attached to the engine and oil will poor from it.
Pour the oil out of the oil filter casing into the catch pan and pull the
oil filter filament off the engine and place it on top of the catch pan to
drain completely before disposal.
Install the new oil filter filament by pushing it onto the cylinder where the old filament was removed. Put the n ew O-ring that came with the filter on the oil filter canister. Replace the oil filter canister and torque to 24 Nm or 18 Ft Lbs.
Fill the oil (filler located in the rear trunk) slowly with 8.5 quarts of oil. Allow the oil to settle into the engine for several minutes and check the level. Top it off to the proper level and look for leaks. If you do not find any leaks, start her up and idle for about 5 minutes looking around for leaks.
Lower the Boxster safely, start it up and look for leaks one last time before driving. After driving the first time, check the oil to make sure it's still at the proper level. Do this at least 1 hour after the engine is stopped.
