Serpentine Drive Belt Check/Replace

Tools needed:
10mm socket or wrench.
24mm or 15/16" open-end wrench.

1) Move the seats all the way forward and fold them forward too.

2) Remove the storage compartment that's behind the seats and then remove the padded cover behind the seats. (You will need to follow the procedure in the owner's manual for exposing the engine compartment).

3) The aluminum firewall cover is now exposed and has has several 10mm bolts holding it on. Remove those bolts and the cover comes off by leaning the top forward and pulling it off the two bolts that hold it on at the bottom.

4) Check the belt for cracks and pieces flaking off along with excessive dryness. If you're at a 60K mile interval, go ahead and replace it.

5) To replace the belt, take a large (24mm or 15/16") open-end wrench and put it on the nut that's on the front of the tensioner (see diagram below). Turn it clockwise with one hand and use the other to slip the belt off.

6) Put the new belt on and check for the correct path using the diagram below.

7) Put the covers back on and that's it.
